When I first started traveling solo, people though When I first started traveling solo, people thought my marriage was ending. Well, here we are, celebrating 10 years! Society has this weird way of making it seem if you don’t do everything with your partner then you aren’t in a loving, healthy relationship.

That is so far from the truth.

Spending time away, focusing on myself, has actually strengthened my marriage.

Here is how solo travel has benefited my marriage:
✨ I’m more confident and know I can know I can handle challenges without having to be dependent on my husband. It’s one thing to have your partner’s support and another to be dependent on them.
✨ I’m able to explore places and travel in a way that might not be appealing to my husband. I don’t feel like I’m being held back or making him do something he wouldn’t enjoy. We are two different people after all and don’t have to love all the same things or travel the same way.
✨ We’ve built a trusting relationship with honest communication.
✨ If you are in a relationship you know that every day you ask your partner, what should we have for dinner? Watch on tv? Do this weekend? Solo travel means it’s all up to me and it allows me to focus on what I like and enjoy without having to consult anyone - it’s like getting back in touch with myself.
✨ Knowing that my husband supports and loves my wanderlust, a big part of who I am as a person, reminds me that I’m chosen the best life partner. He loves me for everything that I am and doesn’t ask me to sacrifice my passions or change who I am to be in a relationship.
✨ Absence makes the heart grow fonder - and our reunions after time away are 🔥

I’ve had people ask me if I get bored from hosti I’ve had people ask me if I get bored from hosting the same itinerary back to back and the answer is NO! Being able to share places that I love, connecting members of my community together, seeing travelers discover new places and make lifelong memories, is so much fun and brings me all the joy in the world.

I especially love to support travelers who are trying international travel for the first time. Being with them step by step as they get ready to leap outside their comfort zone, seeing the excitement new experiences gives them, and then hearing about the confidence they now have is incredible. I’m humbled to be part of their travel journey and I feel blessed that they trust me to help them.

Much love the ladies of Japan II, the week we spend together was so much fun. Thank you for traveling with me to my favorite destination and letting me share it with you.

Tips to solo dining like a pro: 🥗Chat with the Tips to solo dining like a pro:
🥗Chat with the staff or people nearby - a great way to meet people and get a local’s perspective.
🥘Choose a seat strategically - Counter seating is great for single diners who want to socialize, booths have more privacy, outside on the patio is great for people watching.
🍜Bring some entertainment - bring a book or pull out your phone, while I don’t recommend having your phone out all the time it is a nice distraction to have when dining alone. Or just people watch!
🍛Bring something to save your seat. When you get up to use the toilet, you’ll want to have something to show you haven’t abandoned your seat. I usually have a scarf with me.
🍱If you really don’t want to spend your time alone in a restaurant, you can always order room service or get your food to go and enjoy it at your accommodation.
🧆Reminder that people are way more self absorbed than you think. They really aren’t looking at you and even if they are, you’re never going to see them again so live your best solo travel life.
🌯Not quite ready to be solo? Book a food tour or cooking class to meet some new foodie friends. Or sign up for an experience with @eatwith or @meetup groups.
🍰And one last note about dining solo: Don’t be afraid to ask for the table you want and don’t let yourself be forced to sit at a crap table!

ADAPTER vs. CONVERTER The difference between an ad ADAPTER vs. CONVERTER
The difference between an adapter and a converter is electricity. An adapter helps the plugs on your electronics fit into foreign outlets. A converter changes the voltage found in an outlet to match that of your devices.

In the United States, we use 110-120V (60 Hz), while in many other countries, 220-240V (50 Hz) is used.

For the majority of electronics that you are bringing with you when you travel only need an adapter and that’s because they are already designed to be dual- or multi-voltage, meaning that they are able to withstand more than one type of electricity. And this is indicated on the device.

For older electronics or, most commonly, hair tools, these items are single voltage and will need a converter in order to work in other countries.

When in doubt, check the label of your electronics and then visit power-plugs-sockets.com for even more helpful information to keep your items powered on your travels.

When I had my first call with @trovatrip in 2021, When I had my first call with @trovatrip in 2021, they asked me where I wanted to travel with my community. My top choice was Japan! But the boarders were still closed. 😔

While I was hosting my first group trip to Costa Rica, I got a news alert that Japan was starting to reopen - very slowly! I proceeded to freak out and much to my delight my OG OGWs were just as excited as I was.

I immediately sent a message to TT asking for them to start the process on getting my Japan trip up and running. I put dates on hold months prior and was waiting for this news. 🤭

Flashforward nearly 10 months later, I had the great honor to host not just one, but two trips to my favorite destination, my heart home, Japan. Seeing my community discover Japan, make incredible memories, become friends, and best of all, fall just as deeply in love with Japan as I am, has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

Thank you Japan I for joining me, for trusting me, and for saying “HELL YES” to this adventure.

Let me know if you would like a reel showing what Let me know if you would like a reel showing what I bought in Italy and how I’m getting my VAT (value added tax aka sales tax) refunded to me for my purchase.

Not only can you shop in a beautiful location but you can often purchase items for less than you would if you were to go shopping in the States and that’s because of the tax refund that many retailers offer to tourists. But it can be overwhelming and confusing! I’ve gone through the VAT refund process multiple times now and I’ve picked up a few tips to help make it easier and less stressful. So let me know if you are interested and in the meantime, you can check out a blog post from 2018 on my website about all the things I did wrong making my first big luxury purchase overseas.
