About One Girl Wandering

Hey there! I’m Lindsay, the One Girl Wandering, and I’m happy you’re visiting my blog and following along with my adventures. I’m passionate about solo travel, trip planning, and sharing all the travel tips I know with you. I’ve wanted to travel the world for as long as I can remember but for the longest time was overwhelmed and confused about how to do it. I hope I can encourage and educate other women on how to take their travel dreams into reality!

⠀
Noble Oak reminds me to use my #nobleheart to care for and enjoy Mother Nature this Earth Day. Use #NobleHeartHero to share your Noble Heart stories for a chance to win a @nobleoak and @texasmonthly prize package. More information can be found in the link in my bio.⠀
⠀
Noble Oak partners with One Tree Planted and local communities to plant a tree for every bottle with a goal to revitalize the Earth for future generations.⠀
⠀
Here are some things to remember when you visit gorgeous wildflower spots:⠀
🌻Many fields of wildflowers sit on private land, be sure you aren’t trespassing and be respectful of the fields.⠀
🌻These fields are home to many critters. From fire ants to snakes to mosquitos, so be careful where you park your booty for a photo.⠀
🌻When venturing into a wildflower field, be sure to use already existing paths and be careful not to trample the flowers.⠀

⁣😣Hard lessons I'm learning from planning my ⁣😣Hard lessons I'm learning from planning my first international trip.⠀
⠀
Whew! Navigating the logistics of an international trip has gotten a bit more complicated (and expensive) since I last left the country.⠀
⠀
While I'm finding fantastic deals on flights and hotels, I'm also seeing added costs that I now need to factor into my travel budget.⠀
⠀
In addition to adding the cost of a test to return to the US, which can run over $100 in some cases, I'm also having to get additional insurance to cover my butt if I get sick/test positive while I'm in a foreign country.⠀
⠀
And while I always recommend having insurance when you travel, this is a whole new type of coverage that is being required by some destinations.⠀
⠀
It's additional expenses like these (which are in the $100s) that make me super grateful for being able to find deals on other aspects of my trip so I cover these without feeling too pinched. Would I rather this money go towards something way cooler? Absolutely! But it's looking like expenses like this will be a line item on my budget for the time being. ⠀
⠀
Where to find entry requirements:⠀
🧳Destination's visitor/tourism website⠀
🧳US State Department website⠀
🧳US Embassy in that destination's website⠀
🧳cibtvisas.com/health-requirements ⠀
⠀
What requirements are you finding as you plan out travel?
⁣Are you bummed that your local airport never ge ⁣Are you bummed that your local airport never gets good flight deals? Let's chat about positioning flights! I love AUS but compared to bigger airports the deals on flights are kinda meh. This is where booking a positioning flight comes into play.⠀
⠀
Basically, I will find a spectacular deal from a larger airport and I will book a ticket separately from my home airport to the deal airport to take my super cheap flight.⠀
⠀
Things to consider:⠀
✈️Am I still saving money this way? Always double check that you are in fact still getting a great deal when adding in the cost of your positioning flight.⠀
✈️Give yourself extra time! Unlike when you book one trip through one carrier, if for any reason your positioning flight is delayed or cancelled you are still on the hook to make it to your deal flight. You could even add a couple days to your trip and spend some time in your deal city before your flight. ⠀
✈️Positioning flights can work both ways! Wanting your final destination to be Paris but all you can find is a deal to London? Add on a regional flight (or train) from London to Paris.⠀
🧳What about bags? If you check your luggage on your positioning flight you will need to go to baggage claim and get your bag and then recheck it for your deal flight. If you booked your deal flight and your positioning flight on the same airline but separate bookings you can ask the check-in agent to check your bag through. But a good idea, especially if you are on a time crunch, is to stick to a carry-on.⠀
⠀
Drop your questions about positioning flights in the comments!⠀
⠀
And if you are confused as to why I used a photo from my 2019 trip to Japan, head to my stories....
⁣Having a flight canceled on you sucks so much! ⁣Having a flight canceled on you sucks so much! Here are your options for what to do if your flight that operates to, from, or within the United States is cancelled. ⠀
⠀
A good thing to note is that different countries have different rules and regulations! There is actually more passenger protection in the EU.⠀
⠀
Have you ever had a flight canceled? How did the airline handle it?⠀

⁣😱THE AIRLINE CHANGED MY FLIGHT!! Yup, depend ⁣😱THE AIRLINE CHANGED MY FLIGHT!! Yup, depending on how far in advance you book your flight, you could see your flight time, number, plane size, even your layover city change and it can royally screw up your plans. To try to fix this you are going to need to call the airline, but before you do there are steps you need to take that will help you with that call.⠀
⠀
🤓Research alternate flights on the same airline or airline alliance and write down ones that will work better for you, have a few different options. Note the flight costs- in some cases you might be able to cancel your current itinerary and rebook for cheaper.⠀
😭Does this change mean you will miss an event? Shorten a vacation? Cause you to forfeit a reservation? Have all the reasons this is a major inconvenience to you on hand.⠀
😴Has this change caused you to have an undue burden? Has your travel day doubled? Do you now have an unreasonable layover time? Note these too.⠀
🧐Next, read the fine print. What are you entitled to when a change occurs? Each airline has its own policy.⠀
🤩Finally, think about what YOU want from them and ask for it! Do you want your flight to be changed? Would you be happy with a voucher, bonus miles, or some other compensation like a lounge pass for your long layover? Or do you want to cancel and get a refund?⠀
⠀
Once you have all this information you are prepared to get on the phone and advocate for what you want. And remember to be nice to the person you are talking to!⠀
⠀
🌟Bonus: If you have a history with the airline, it doesn't hurt to bring up your frequent flier and/or your credit card number.⠀
⠀
📆Tomorrow we are going to chat about what your rights are as a passenger when your flights that operate to, from, or within the United States are delayed or cancelled. Turn on those post notifications now!
⁣Should you sign up for a frequent flyer account ⁣Should you sign up for a frequent flyer account?⠀
OMG YES! Do not be fooled by the by the term "frequent" as @united, @delta, @southwest, and @jetblue have changed their miles policy so they don't expire. Meaning that you could be banking miles over multiple years to use on a free ticket. ⠀
⠀
So why join?⠀
✈️It's free.⠀
✈️It's easy.⠀
✈️You can manage your flight details anywhere there's internet, either on a website or app.⠀
✈️Get enough miles and you can get upgrades, free tickets, and other perks.⠀
✈️Your data is saved so you can book a flight much faster. Which means snagging a deal quicker when you find one.⠀
⠀
I have signed up for a frequent flyer account for every airline that I have ever flown on and yes, there are some that I use more than others but it allows me to have a history with that airline.⠀
⠀
This comes in handy whenever I have needed to talk to an airline rep. I am able to point out just how many flights I had taken with that airline and how long I had been a customer. This has gotten me some special treatment in terms of changing flights and even upgrades for flights!⠀
⠀
Do you have a favorite airline and are you signed up for their frequent flyer program?⠀

Just a reminder that there's no wrong way to trave Just a reminder that there's no wrong way to travel! You could visit the same place as someone else and have very different experience and that's perfectly ok.⠀
⠀
I've seen a lot of judgement passed around about how people choose to travel. From where they choose to stay, to what they eat, to what they do, heck down to how they take photos! And I'm going to need people to stop that.⠀
⠀
What you choose to do when you travel is as unique as your fingerprint and you should be living YOUR best life when you travel. ⠀
⠀
If you want to stay in a hostel - go for it! ⠀
If you want to dine out at fancy restaurants - go for it! ⠀
If you want to spend your day in a museum - go for it! ⠀
If you aren’t into itineraries and you wanna wing it when you get there - go for it! ⠀
⠀
Don’t let anyone tell you that you are experiencing a place the wrong way!⠀
⠀
Furthermore, I will never tell you that I have the perfect way of traveling or planning trips - but I will share everything I know and if something works or resonates with you please use it on your next trip.⠀
⠀
Have you ever felt judged for how you chose to travel?
⁣I don't pay for Global Entry, my credit card co ⁣I don't pay for Global Entry, my credit card company does!⠀
⠀
Global Entry is one of the best programs out there. Not only does it include TSA PreCheck which helps you skip the long lines at airport security but getting back into the US after an international flight is a breeze. Trust me, the least fun you can have after a vacation is waiting to get through US customs.⠀
⠀
The program costs $100. Ouchie! That's a really nice meal! Luckily there are credit cards that as part of their benefit will credit back the fee for Global Entry 🤑⠀
⠀
Here are some of them:⠀
💳The Platinum Card from American Express ⠀
💳United Explorer Card⠀
💳Chase Sapphire Reserve⠀
💳Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card⠀
💳Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card⠀
💳Bank of America Premium Rewards credit card⠀
💳Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard⠀
💳IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card⠀
⠀
Each of these has different annual fees and in the case of my United card the fee is actually LESS than the cost of Global Entry. ⠀
⠀
And if you are interested in the CLEAR program, Delta and United have discounted rates for their members.⠀
⠀
Are you signed up for any of these programs?
