The Local Chapter – Terlingua, TX

Isn’t it great when something lives up to your expectations? I’ve been admiring the luxury yurts at The Local Chapter in Terlingua, TX for about a year now, dreaming about staying in a beautiful accommodation with incredible desert views. I’m delighted to tell you that this dreamy Airbnb was just as gorgeous and cozy in real life as it is on Instagram.

Sitting just down the road from Big Bend National Park on 400 private acres are the four yurts of The Local Chapter. Each yurt accommodates 2 people, it feels very exclusive, and with the generous space between each yurt, you’ll hardly notice your neighbors. The property offers unobstructed 360 views of the desert. The sunrises and sunsets are glorious and you can enjoy them on the front porch or on the rocking chairs around the private fire pit each yurt has.

Let’s talk about the high quality glamping experience inside the yurt! Each yurt is outfitted with a cozy king sized bed which is perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring Terlingua and the National Park. Right above the bed is an incredible skylight that fills the yurt with gorgeous natural light during the day and provides a view of the stars at night. The inside looks like Pinterest dream board – in the best way! One of the things I loved were the books under each bedside table, they all feature incredible outdoor spaces that had me dreaming of my next city escape.

There is also a full bathroom with a real, flushing toilet and huge shower. And, yes, there is hot water. I know your next question is going to be about AC, this is Texas after all. There is AC and electric heat, but if you are feeling particularly outdoorsy there is a wood burning stove.

There is limited cell phone service. At first I was panicked about not getting my social media fix but eventually loved being unplugged and truly enjoying uninterrupted time in Big Bend. It was like a weight had been lifted and it made me appreciate the views and the seclusion of the yurt even more.

Also in the bathroom is a fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker. This came in handy for storing drinks and snacks from the small, but very well stocked Cottonwood General Store just 3 minutes down the road.

While the solitude makes you feel like you are in your own world, The Local Chapter is conveniently located in Terlingua. There are restaurants less than 15 minutes away. Make sure you check out Starlight Theatre Restaurant and Saloon for dinner and grab your morning coffee and muffins from Canyon Brew.

The stargazing is spectacular out here and every yurt has it’s very own telescope although you’ll hardly need it because Big Bend has some of the darkest skies in North America. Honestly, one of my favorite parts of my stay was sitting on the porch and looking up at the stars, so many more than I get to see when I’m back home in Austin.

The Local Chapter is the perfect getaway in West Texas if you are looking for peace, spectacular views, and an unparalleled, luxe glamping experience. I loved my time here and would drive out there for another stay in a heartbeat. Book your stay with The Local Chapter today.
