Staying In: Getaway Review

We could all use a little getaway especially now. After spending close to 4 months at home I could tell that my husband needed a change of scenery. I’ve been admiring Getaway for nearly half a year and when I heard they were opening up a Austin/San Antonio location I knew it would be the perfect place to, for lack of a better word, getaway to.

On the morning of our stay I received a text message with the door code for our cabin, named Herminia. Yup, all the cabins have adorable little names. I appreciate the contactless feature of checking into the cabin. Read about how Getaway is keeping guests safe during COVID-19.

Pulling up to the little cabin I already felt relaxed. The modern cabins are spread out over the property so while you will catch glimpses of your fellow getawayers through the trees you still feel quite secluded and private. I enjoyed reclining on the bed with the book I keep meaning to get around to reading while looking out the giant window, don’t worry there are shades for nighttime! I’ll fully admit to being more of a glamper than a camper, so I was happy to have a flush toilet and shower with hot water.

The cabin has everything you need for your stay, from a mini fridge and stocked kitchenette, to firewood for your own fire pit. There is also a provisions basket, which is a much better version of a hotel mini-bar. We opted to bring our own groceries and cooked in the cabin and dined alfresco. After dinner, we started a fire and had s’mores for dessert.

One of the things I loved about Getaway was that we could bring the whole family. Yup, it’s dog friendly so Bisou, my miniature dachshund, came along for the night. She doesn’t normally get to look out windows (short dog problems) so seeing her happily staring out the giant window of our cabin was adorable. Even the doogos need a vacation!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and know Bisou and my husband did as well. I highly recommend Getaway if you are looking for a place to escape to safely and responsibly.
